Herald-Progress Hanover County, Virginia

Editorial standards

These standards apply to every guide, map and illustration on Herald-Progress.

Independent and local

We are not paid by the places, events or businesses we describe. When that changes for a page, the page will say so at the top.

Sources

Facts come from primary sources wherever possible: Hanover County and the Town of Ashland, Hanover County Public Schools, the National Park Service, the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, the Library of Virginia, Randolph-Macon College and the organizers of each event. Every guide lists its sources at the end.

Dates and events

Festival dates change from year to year. Overviews give the usual month; each event page names the current date and when it was last checked.

Illustrations

The landscapes and vignettes on this site are painted illustrations made for it. They show the character of a place, not a photographic record of it.

The former newspaper

We do not republish articles, photographs or obituaries from the Herald-Progress newspaper. Our archive pages explain where that material is kept today.

Review and corrections

Every page shows a “last reviewed” date. Corrections are noted on the page with the date of the change.
